Maija Möttö

Maija Möttö from Pieksämäki has been making art since she was a child. Mother taught Maija Mötö to draw Donald Ducks, but according to Maija, “then imagination came.” He has developed his own kind of mixed technique, where marker line, wax crayons, acrylic inks and dry pastels alternate.

The main characters of the works are often animals found in nature books, which Maija Möttö quickly sketches on large pieces of paper. He decides the background and atmosphere as the work progresses, and often a story is created for the piece at the same time, which Möttö summarizes in a small humorous piece of text. Sculptures may also be born from the same animal figures later.
